Recommendation from Dr. Paul Vitz
for the Biblical Vision of the Family DVD Series
“As most of us know the crisis of our culture is really a crisis of the family. And the crisis of the family is mostly a crisis of fathers, that is, fathers who aren’t there or who are technically there but not there functionally or psychologically. Thus, to change the culture we must strengthen the family and most especially strengthen our understanding of the importance of fatherhood. In this way we can bring back good fathers to our families. But this requires that we have a sound model of what fathers should be, especially how they should act.
“The CD program of Dr. Joseph Atkinson does this extremely well by presenting the Biblical Vision of the Family with its special emphasis on the role of the father. His material steeped in a thorough understanding of the scriptures and a sound appreciation of Church doctrine gives us the needed model for the family. The CD’s combined with Atkinson’s family support website is a perfect combination of material for fathers and also for mothers who want to build a strong family rooted in the Faith. The material is psychologically sound and comes with many practical suggestions. Through the website it constantly introduces new ideas and useful aids.
“For Christian families, especially Catholic families looking for help there is nothing out there that I know of that is anywhere as helpful as Atkinson’s program.”

“I wish I had known these things when I was younger! It would have made life much sweeter. To think of the family as the Domestic Church – to really teach that – is to teach that the home is a place of peace; of goodness and truth”.

“The idea that the nature of woman is to be open caused me to look at the nature of man. Man is often moved to please his wife and yet the man is called to be the spiritual head of the household! It is important that we don’t mix up those priorities…it has caused problems from the beginning!”

“There are so many wonderful aspects to this program that it’s difficult to pinpoint anyone in particular. But, it is extremely important to understand that Our Divine Creator has designed each of us to play a unique and specific role within our family so that our Domestic Church can become a strong building block for the entire Church. When we either don’t fully comprehend that role or we try to assume a different role, the family (our Domestic Church) is not complete and is usually not at peace or in full harmony with the entire Church.”

“The program has helped me to see how important the role of the family is in forming your children! We are responsible for this formation!”

Comment from a Facilitator
“The program was user friendly! Dr. Atkinson’s presentation is very accessible, easy to understand and just the right amount of time. It left an opportunity for the group to discuss the comments made by him and to apply those principles to our lives. There was always a connection to real life alongside REAL theology! It was a pleasure to use this program.
The guide book was very helpful to the participants as they didn’t have to do a lot of writing. They could listen and then they had the book to go back to for review.
We are thinking of using the program for ongoing formation for parents of CCE children. While the children are in class, we will provide the parents with the educational materials/dvd. They often complain that they would like some formation opportunities while they are waiting for their children. This is a wonderful opportunity and tool we can use.”
